- Allow More Snack Foods – The entire process may feel stressful for the entire household at times. Make allowances in the diet for comfort foods and more snack foods that your family may otherwise avoid.
- Occasional Fast Food – Again, many homeowners choose to avoid fast food. Consider making allowances for fast food once a week to get out of the house and away from the project.
- Temporary Dining Room – Your existing dining room could actually become your temporary kitchen and eating area combined.
- Disposable Plates and Utensils – Don’t worry about washing things; use all disposable plates and utensils. Look for biodegradable options if you’re concerned with the accumulation of trash.
- Dust and Noise Become a Way of Life – Unfortunately the dust and noise can’t be entirely avoided. We do everything we can to prevent dust from entering other areas of the home, but we cannot guarantee a dust-free environment. As homeowners, we understand the frustration, and ask you to bear with us through the process.
- Daily Interruptions – Again, interruptions cannot be avoided. We will do our best to be as respectful of your daily life as possible.
- Don’t Let Stress Get to You – We’re homeowners as well. We understand how stressful the process can be. Try to stay out of the house as much as possible and enjoy the journey from blah kitchen to dream kitchen.
- Keep the Big Picture in Mind – Please remember that a diamond doesn’t start out lovely and shiny. It starts as a lump of coal and is made into something amazing over time. Print a few pictures of what you expect out of your new kitchen and look at them often. Don’t allow yourself to become overwhelmed when you see the existing kitchen in shambles.
- Leave the House for the Duration – Consider going away for a few weeks. Stay with family, get a hotel, go camping or on vacation.
- Maintain a Sense of Humor – We understand that tearing your entire kitchen out to the bare walls can be stressful. We don’t ever want to make light of the emotional turmoil this may cause during the demolition phase, because we do understand it. Please try to find the humor in the various stages so you can share a fun kitchen remodeling story with your family and friends later.
