Plan your remodeling project in advance so you’re sure to add everything you’ve wanted over time. We encourage people to make notes on little things throughout their home that they would like to change. Check the notes from time to time and add to or modify them as needed. Let’s look at how to plan your whole home remodeling project, room to room.
Create Lists
Lists are a great start to any type of project, especially when it comes to your home. Start your list at least six months before you plan to actually begin the project. Make lists of things you love about each room in your home and lists of things you dislike. Be as detailed as possible while making your lists so you can discuss both your likes and your dislikes with us before we dig into the project. Here are a few things to think about while you’re considering each room.
- Kitchen – Most of our waking time is spent in the kitchen. This is where we prepare our meals and spend time with others in the household. This may be where you help your children with homework or play board games occasionally. The kitchen is likely where you entertain friends. It should be a place to which you feel comfortable inviting people and allowing them to share this area of your home. It also has to be completely functional and easy to work in.
- Bedroom – Most adults spend at least 6-8 hours per night sleeping in the bedroom. We also spend roughly two hours per day in the bedroom or somewhere in the bedroom suite either preparing for work or preparing for bed. The entire bedroom suite should fit your lifestyle and make you completely comfortable.
- Bathrooms – The bathrooms throughout your home need to do more than exist. The master bath should make you feel like you’re truly the master of the home. It should be your escape and the place where you can truly relax after work. Additional bathrooms must also perform the function that they’re intended to perform whether it’s a small half-bath by the kitchen, a shared bathroom between bedrooms, or additional full bedroom suites.
- Living Spaces – Most homeowners have multiple living spaces. We enjoy the solitude of a den or office, the peace and quiet of a formal living room, the exciting times in a family room, and the fun times in the entertainment area. All of these individual spaces perform specific duties and create the entire environment that we call home. They must work together to create what we need in order to enjoy the home with those we love.
