More homeowners are taking to the great outdoors than ever before. The increase in outdoor kitchens and deck remodeling has been quite refreshing on several levels. We enjoy working outdoors and creating incredible outdoor spaces for homeowners who wish to transition to a more outdoor-friendly lifestyle. Here are 10 amazing features we believe adds a unique flare to every deck.
- Tiers – A regular rectangular deck is fine, but don’t stop there. Add tiers and sections where visitors can congregate and enjoy each other’s company when you entertain.
- Hot Tub – A hot tub provides the ability to truly relax at the end of a trying day or a rough work week.
- Fire Feature – Fire features add warmth and light, quite literally, to any outdoor gathering. The fire itself helps ward off insects so you can enjoy time outdoors without using bug spray.
- Water Feature – A waterfall or a small pond designed for use on the deck is a great way to add ambience and life to your deck. Consider a small, covered fish pond with a fountain.
- Gazebo or Pergola – We’ve seen and built several great gazebos and pergolas on or near decks. One of the most creative uses of a deck we’ve seen includes building a deck that is accessible from the second floor while partly enclosing the patio on the first floor to create a gazebo that is accessible from the first floor below the deck.
- Built-in Seating and Storage – Built-in storage is a wonderful addition to any deck. Consider building built-in seating with storage underneath so you can keep patio furniture cushions safe from elemental damage while they aren’t in use.
- Kitchen – An outdoor kitchen is a wonderful way to entertain without feeling like you’re trapped inside cooking while everyone else is outside enjoying the social life. Your outdoor kitchen can be as basic or as intricate as you wish.
- Wet Bar – Almost everyone enjoys a nice drink at the end of the day or to invite friends over to have a cold one on the weekends. Install a wet bar on the patio so you can really entertain friends.
- Planters – Add some color and life to your deck with built-in planters or large planters that you can move from area to area as needed. Plant flowers that will look amazing year round and provide a splash of color regardless of the season.
- Trash Bins – Many people forget to include some type of trash disposal on their deck. This is the perfect area to entertain, however, so you do absolutely need to be able to throw papers, bottles, plastic utensils, and other trash away. Install two trash bins if you promote recycling with your friends and family.
